This is such an exciting time! This week we will be preparing for POLs. POLs will be held June 15th, 16th, and 17th during school and are the culminating event of 9th grade! To sign up for a time slot, follow this link.
There are four different options you can choose from for the style of POL you hold.
POL Option #1: Digital Storytelling
Do you like telling stories? Do you like using photography and found images to communicate? Through digital storytelling you will tell your own unique, thematic tale of your freshman year through pictures, found images, music and a voice over. Your digital narrative should not only tell your story, but move your audience to reflect on their own experience, modify their behavior, treat others with greater compassion or shed light on injustice. The sharing of your story should be personal and make a difference! The format will be entertaining and will use a variety of methods to create an artistic representation of
your incredible year.
POL Option #2: OffBeat Topics
Can you make interesting but rational connections? Take one of these offbeat college essay topics (that actually are personal essay topics for different colleges!) and use evidence from your learning in all of your classes this year at High Tech High to answer the prompt. You must have a visual aid (Prezi, PowerPoint or other striking visual aids) to accompany your presentation.
POL Option #3: Build Your Best Work
#3a. Using skills that you have learned this year, build something that you have never built before that showcases something you have come to understand deeply.
#3b. Design and conduct an experiment--social, mathematical or scientific and present results during your POL.
POL Option #4: Design your own compelling POL (approved by teacher)
Do you like TED Talks? Do you watch awesome lectures just for fun? Do you like theatre? Are you a natural entertainer? Do you want to take on the task of not delivering compelling, meaningful information but also designing the way you are delivering it? This is not for the lazy or weak of spirit! Yours can be completely personalized but you will be working with a teacher to approve your work!
End of Year Reflection Letter
Before you start working on your POL, you need to complete your End of the Year Reflection Letter. This is due at the end of class on Monday 6/1. Once your letter is submitted, you may begin working on your POL.
