Essential Questions:
Description and Product:
At the end of our unit on Nutrition, students will invent a super hero or a super villain based on healthy or unhappy foods. In their Humanities class, they will write a comic about the super hero or super villain. In math class, students will create a mathematical drawing of their superhero or super villain composed of various equations using Desmos, an online graphic calculator. To complete this task, students will draw their superhero or super villain on a coordinate grid, find two points on and the slope of each line in the drawing, create equations in point-slope or y-intercept form and enter the equations into Desmos.
Students' Creations:
Standards:
- Graph functions expressed symbolically and show key features of the graph, by hand in simple cases and using technology for more complicated cases. Graph linear functions and show intercepts
- Relate the domain of a function to its graph and, where applicable, to the quantitative relationship it describes
- Use appropriate tools strategically.
- Attend to precision.
Essential Questions:
- How can we use different types of graphs to draw an image?
- What is the connection between mathematics and art?
